Geography
The Dead Sea is a saline lake. 76 km length, up to 17 km width and 365 m depth. It is located 400 meters below sea level and is the lowest point on the surface of the earth. It came to being under the influence of the tectonic activity that caused part of the land to sink. It is a part of the Jordan Valley and it is located in the Syrian-African Rift Valley.
Today, water evaporation is faster than the water supply and the sea is gradually shrinking. Over the last 30 years, water levels have dropped 25 meters.
