ARM LIFT

Brachioplasty for Loose Arm Skin

A cosmetic surgical procedure that reshapes and improves the upper arm appearance and reduces excess sagging skin that hangs down.

According to Dr. Husami, MD, Cosmetic, Plastic and hand surgeon, Arm Lift ranks among the most successful procedures that reshape normal structures of the arms, with no risk if done by an expert plastic surgeon. Making sure that your doctor is registered in LSPRAS (www.lspras.com) is already the first step towards safety.

Graduated from New York University as a fellow of plastic surgery in 1990, Dr. Tarek Husami’s distinctive approach to plastic surgery is built on natural looking results, less invasive procedures, easier healing and personalized care.

CAUSES OF SAGGING UPPER ARMS
Besides natural aging process and heredity, loose upper arm skin is most often related to weight loss.
After fluctuations in weight, skin often fails to tighten as the collagen in the skin was damaged, resulting in sagging upper arms.

BRACHIOPLASTY & EXERCISE
Sagging arm skin is a condition that cannot be corrected through exercise which can tone and tighten muscles but cannot tighten skin.

PROCEDURE
Incisions are generally placed on the inside of the arm or on the back of the arm and may extend from the underarm (axilla) to just above the elbow.

BRACHIOPLASTY & LIPOSUCTION
These two procedures can be done at the same time. Excess fat may be directly excised or treated with liposuction; brachioplasty will be directly performed in order to give the final perfect required result.
The only time liposuction is to be done separately is when there is excess fatty tissue in the upper arms yet the skin is relatively tight. Liposuction when done properly has a mild skin-tightening effect.

ADVANTAGES
Arm lift will tightens and smoothes the underlying supportive tissue and will certainly reduces localized pockets of fat in the upper arm region.

BEST CANDIDATE
According to Dr. Husami, a consultation with a trustworthy, qualified and experienced plastic surgeon is the best and only way to determine the necessity of this intervention as well as its success.
Usually, any healthy adult with significant upper arm skin excess and laxity can undergo this procedure provided his is not significantly overweight and has a relatively stable weight.

ANESTHESIA
General anesthesia is usually recommended.

LENGTH OF SURGERY
Approximate Length of Surgery 1-2 hours.
The procedure typically takes one to two hours, but may take longer depending on the extent of the surgery and any additional procedures, such as liposuction, that are performed at the same time.

SUTURES
After the excessive skin is removed and tightened, deep absorbable sutures are done to close the incision.
Depending on your specific condition and incisions, stitches that need to be removed within one to two weeks after surgery are added.

RESULTS
Arm lift results are typically long lasting.
The smoother, tighter contours that result from brachioplasty are apparent almost immediately following the procedure.
Maintaining a stable, healthy weight can help you retain your results.

RECOVERY
Mild discomfort right after the procedure accompanied by normal swelling and bruising will occur in the first few days but will subside within two weeks.
An elastic bandage or a compression garment can be used in order to minimize swelling following surgery.

SCARS
Usually incision scars from an arm lift are permanent, but usually a well experienced surgeon will place them in unexposed areas. In most severe cases, especially if the amount of removed skin is large, scars are to be considered more seriously.
