ELIAS DOUMMAR

Lebanese Film Critic and Festival Programmer

Born in Bordeaux, France in 1993, to a French mother and Lebanese father, Alice’s desire to study fashion desigBorn in Beirut, the midst of the civil war in 1980, his cinematic passion started while watching both his parents as avid watchers of VHS films, who were the first to nail a local film-house competition by renting more than 100 films and winning a movie of their choice... and guess what was it? They picked 1967’s Disney animation, The Jungle Book!

Searching for film circles to join and people who share the same passion, he became member of Circuit Empire’s Movie Guide Fan Club in 1998 and elected to its committee… from there, Elias started writing film reviews for some of many magazines (Lifestyle ME, Trait D’Union, Seulement Pour VIP, Mondanité, Road Trips and In Town).

2003 was a turning-point, when Elias participated in LBCI’s “Al-Moumayazoun” and won the bronze medal in the cinema category, leading the way to becoming a cinematic broadcaster for TV & Radio.



The cinematic journey evolved with joining Beirut International Film Festival team with various organizing positions, till becoming member of the programming team by 2013… Meanwhile he started hosting his weekly movie segment on LBC SAT’s daily live talk-show B-Beirut.


Elias has been part and headed several local/international film festival juries, and acting as international judge for Sydney’s Lebanese Film Festival since 2014. Additionally, he attended many international film festivals while some regularly as Cannes Film Festival.



In 2017, Doummar was appointed as Cinema Advisor to the Minister of Culture, Dr. Ghattas Khoury, and became member of the Ministry of Culture Oscars Committee, that designates Lebanon's Official Submission for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award.




Furthermore, Elias joined the Ministry of Culture Cinema Committee, that advises on film policies and provides annual film grants based on document submission.
